During the term of former president Cory Aquino, the date was changed to align with the American tradition which set Mother’s Day on the 2nd Sunday of May, and Father’s Day on the 3rd Sunday of June. However, during the term of former President Joseph Estrada, the dates were changed back to the 1st Monday of December. In spite of that, the popular celebration of Mother’s Day in the Philippines remains to be on the 2nd Sunday of May.
