But if you want to preserve them, you can learn how to make dried flowers and preserve the memory that goes with them for as long as you want.

Read on to learn the different flower drying techniques.

4 Easy Flower Drying Techniques

1. Use silica gel to dry flowers.

One of the easy ways to make dried flowers is by using silica gel. This material is easy to find and can be used with roses and other sturdy blooms.

All you have to do is to bury the flowers in a container filled with silica gel. Leave it there for a few days or a week. By this time, your dried flowers should be ready!

2. Make dried flowers using a microwave oven.

The ever-dependable kitchen appliance can help you make dried flowers. You’ll need a ceramic plate, an absorbent material like coffee filer to complete this flower drying technique.

  • Get a ceramic plate and cover it with absorbent material.
  • Put the flower on top of the absorbent material and cover it with another absorbent material.
  • Use another ceramic plate to cover the flower.
  • Place in the microwave and set it to 1 minute.
  • Take out the plate with the flower and replace the absorbent materials used, cover again and place it in the microwave oven for another minute.
  • Repeat the process until you achieve the dryness you want.

3. Air dry the flowers.

Another simple but effective technique is air drying. You can make dried flowers by hanging the flowers upside down. Secure the flowers and tie them in a bunch then hang them upside down. Make sure to choose a well-ventilated area that is away from direct sunlight. The process will allow the petals to shrink and change color after a few weeks.

4. Try the “Pressed method”.

Another simple process that will show you how to make dried flowers is the ‘pressed method’. As its name suggests, it will involve pressing. It takes little effort but may consume some time for the results to be wonderful.

What you’ll need:

  • Heavy book
  • Parchment/wax paper
  • Flowers

To start, you’ll need a heavy book like an encyclopedia or dictionary. Line one page with parchment or wax paper. This is the place where you’ll line up the flowers. Leave them face down and keep them from overlapping. Gently close the book and leave it untouched for at least 1 week. This would give enough time for the moisture to be removed and get your flowers dried up.
